Preparing For Your Session

Pre-Planning

After booking your session we will discuss the goals you have, the story you will tell and the overall direction of the shoot. From that, we will form a plan and work towards the session. This will include wardrobe, style, mood.

I'm a believer of communication- before, during and after the session. For the "before", from the pre-planning and up to the shoot, I employ mood boards and fully encourage a client to do their homework as well. This is an investment in your experience, and it only helps to build a rapport between photographer and client as well. Being on the same page heading into the session is invaluable to the both of us.

Grooming Guidelines

All the planning beforehand could be all for naught if you show up for your special day not ready for the camera. These are the basics in terms of hair, nails, waxing, tans / tan lines, for example. As a rough guide, waxing should be done a couple of days before the shoot. Nail polish, applied 1-2 days before. Spray tans should be at least a week old. These are basic reminders, so you may want to plan accordingly.

Wardrobe

Whether it's lingerie, a casual shirt top, heels or other garments you plan on using, be mindful to try on brand-new items beforehand. As well, make sure tags won't stick out (or are removed). Be comfortable, and dress to the style you're going for.

Props and Objects

Props and personal items can add to your scene as you're telling your story. Something intimate to you or your special loved one can be a special touch. Lipstick tubes, wedding veils, engagement rings and other jewelry such as a string of pearls can show a touch of class. Also, don't overlook accessories like reading glasses or even a favorite book for a unique element.

Posing and The Photographer’s Demonstration

It's likely that many clients have no modeling background and will be arriving for your shoot without ideas. That said, I am keen to help you in explaining poses or guiding you to a natural posture where you're not posing for me, but in a room alone. The photographer is invisible; and there only to capture. I will introduce movement, and as we build a flow to the session you'll soon feel more relaxed and become a natural in no time.

As you change outfits, we simply repeat the process and change scenes, lighting and create more looks. Again, this is your dynamic story.
